The Gavdos Sustainable Development Plan based on participatory design is an initiative of the Municipality of Gavdos implemented with the support of the Management Organisation Unit of Development Programmes (MOU).

The project aims to create an integrated methodology of mobilization, knowledge and competence development with the coordination and support of the local community and all stakeholders’ group. The overall scope is for everyone interested to actively participate in the development and implementation of a locally oriented development action plan.

Throughout the project, participatory workshops focused on SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats), productive community, energy community, social and solidarity economy were held in Gavdos, Crete and Athens.

The participation of the residents and friends of Gavdos was crucial both in terms of the number of people and the degree of participation. With their dynamic presence they recorded their views, their concerns and their ideas for the future of their island, while laying the foundation for a fully democratic process and constructive dialogue.
