The conference "Participatory Design: City, environment and climate change. Experiences, challenges & potentials” is taking place on November 19, 20, 21, at Serafio City of Athens, at a time full of challenges for the future of participatory design as a methodology and practice of planning and policy-making.

Participatory design methods need to be further tested and developed to respond to the tangible effects of climate change on everyday life in cities, the unprecedented experience of the pandemic, as well as the economic and social impact of austerity policies on regional and local government. Within that context, the conference aims to create a space for dialogue on the democratization of urban planning processes by scaling the active participation of local authorities, communities, groups and organizations. Drawing on experiences from Greece and abroad, the conference aims to showcase examples and good practices, which highlight methods, structures, tactics, as well as possibilities and limitations set by the current policies and procedures in planning at the local and regional level.

The conference will bring together a wide group of professionals from design practitioners, researchers, representatives of local government agencies, etc.

Attendance is free in person or online
